Doctor in the Building

In all the chaos of what has become my life as Love & I begin a new chapter in our lives, I forgot to announce (to many people…my bad) that I can now sign my name as: Kenyatta Y. Dawson, Ph.D.!

I graduated yesterday with my Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education!!! My Dad asked me how I felt to be a doctor. My answer…, “I’m hungry”.

Yay! {Finally.} Off to bed.

What a project! I think I’ve been working on refurnishing this table for 2-3 months. The final product is a nice whimsical piece to put in our living room. Love’s mother gave me this Singer treadle sewing machine table, and boy - was it in bad shape. She had acquired it from a church auction…I think. In any case, it was needing some TLC.

After really taking a look at all the pieces I decided to deal with each piece individually. I sanded everything down & cleaned (so many times) the legs & spray painted them with Rust-oleum Universal Spray Paint in metallic gold. I used Minwax Polyshades classic black in satin for the wood treatment. Loved working with it since it has the stain and polyurethane together.  It took a lot of work. There were so many times I thought of trashing the whole table, keeping the legs, and making a separate table to go on top of it. But I’m glad I pulled through. The first thing Love did was play with the wheel once the table was put together. How cute. ;)

I’ve been thinking of submitting this on DesignSponge. Hmmm…..?

New header for my facebook page. :)

Last week marked my 5th anniversary with Love.

We spent the previous afternoon at Cafe Monet making mugs for each other {I love it when he picks an activity he knows I’ll love}. I’m calling the one he made me my “grandma” mug because it just reminds me of an ol’ fashioned mug. I went with the ol’ carved our name into a tree motif.

I love my Love. :)

Back in 1992 I started collecting Marvel Universe cards. At that time I only got 2 holograms out of the hundreds of card packages bought. I remember I traded my Ghost Rider hologram for most of my card set from a boy named Nathan. About a year ago, thanks to the glory {& curse} of Ebay, I finished my set.
However, forgetful me, I purchased a second set of holograms last week. Oops! That’s what I get for watching Big Bang Theory, getting excited about comics, and then ordering - what I thought I was missing - 5 holograms to complete my series. Oh well, tis the price for reliving a wonderful part of my childhood. ;)
I just realized that 1992 was 20 years ago. Whoa, I’m getting old{er}!
